Meadowlark Farm

Pasture raised pigs eating grass on a farm

Pasture raised heritage pork and handcrafted tallow skin products on our small, family farm in Iowa.

At Meadowlark Farm, our goal is to live a life that honors God, fulfill the dreams of those who came before us, and prepare the way for future generations. It’s truly a family affair. We take pride in raising our Kunekune pigs and crafting pork tallow products with the same care. Raised without hormones or antibiotics, our pigs graze on open pastures, ensuring high-quality, nutrient-rich products. We also believe in giving you the confidence to know exactly where, how, and by whom your skincare is made. We're honored to be your family’s trusted source for sustainably sourced, natural tallow products; local, farm fresh Kunekune pork; and exceptional Kunekune genetics.

  • Steve & Heather Scar - Meadowlark Farm

    Meet The Farmers.

Hello! We're Steve and Heather Scar. Owners at Meadowlark Farm: a veteran-owned, family farm located near Adair, Iowa. We take pride in knowing and caring for each of the animals we've been blessed with on our farm. We specialize in Kunekunes - a rare, grass-grazing heritage hog breed. All our pigs are slowly pasture-raised with lots of fresh air, sunlight, and belly rubs :) We finish our hogs on non-GMO feed and being a small farm, you're able to have confidence in where your meat comes from. Thank you for supporting our Iowa family farm!

  • Pork Chops - Meadowlark Apothecary

    Heritage Kunekune Pork.

Kunekunes make the most delicious marbled red cuts of meat. Research shows pork raised on pastures is also significantly more nutrient-dense. Find out where you can shop our farm fresh pork, and which restaurants you can dine at to taste renowned Meadowlark Farm pork.

  • Meadowlark Apothecary Calming Whipped Tallow Body Lotion

    Meadowlark Apothecary.

We are passionate about sustainability and believe we are honoring the life of our pigs by using the whole hog - that's part of the reason my daughter and I launched Meadowlark Apothecary. With her background in esthetics and our passion for using pure, wholesome ingredients, we teamed up to create pork tallow products that are carefully handcrafted to nourish your skin using only simple, clean ingredients.

Our Commitment

Wooden fencing and green grass pastures

USDA Inspected

We process our meat at a state inspected, locally-owned butcher shop to ensure the highest quality of pork reaches your fork.

Our butcher shop is CIS certified to sell across state lines. They are overseen by the state, but technically it's a Federal License.

Superior Genetics

We are committed to continually improve our herd’s genetics. We have worked hard since 2018 to improve rate of gain - our cuttent goal is 300# at a year. We are the only breeder in the U.S. who uses ultrasound to improve the meat to fat ratio to produce practical pork genetics in Kunekunes.

Whole Use, Zero Waste

We embrace a “whole use, zero waste” philosophy, ensuring sustainability and respect for the life of each pig. By honoring the lineal nose-to-tail approach, we carry forward time-honored traditions. We find a purpose for each part - carefully purifying pork tallow for skincare and utilizing each cut to its fullest potential.
