FAQs & How To’s *
-
Tallow is a nutrient-dense, rendered fat - ours comes directly from the pasture-raised raised pigs on our family farm. It’s rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K and its profile closely matches our skin’s natural oils, making it deeply nourishing, gentle, and effective. It’s how our ancestors cared for their skin.

ALL of our pork tallow comes from pasture-raised pigs right on our family farm. We know how these animals are raised, what they’re being fed, and that they ( of course) get lots of belly rubs and live the best lives in open air in the sunshine. Our tallow is slow-rendered to ensure maximum nutrient retention, a smooth texture, and a naturally clean scent. We embrace a “whole use, zero waste” philosophy, ensuring sustainability, honoring the life of each pig, and carrying forward ancestral traditions.

Our name is a nod to the prairie - where wild herbs grow, animals roam, and the call of the meadowlark signals both morning and memory. “Meadowlark Made” reflects our commitment to handcrafted, small-batch goods made with ingredients grown, raised, or foraged on our family farm. It’s returning to the old ways - simple, nourishing, and whole; while letting faith, stewardship, and tradition guide work of our hands. Everything we make is a love letter to the land and our foremothers who came before us.
Meadowlark Made utilizes pork tallow from our small, Veteran-owned farm located near Adair, IA. When you purchase from Meadowlark Made, you’re supporting two small businesses!
Note: The name ‘Meadowlark’ comes from Heather’s childhood. As a child, she stayed often with her grandparents on the very same farm she lives on today. Often, in the mornings, she’d hear meadowlarks while she laid in bed. The meadowlark call still brings a sense of fulfillment and love to this day.

We recommend storing your products in a cool, dark place. Tallow prefers a temperature that is not too hot, and not too cold. Extreme heat may cause tallow to melt, while freezing temperatures may cause tallow to lose its texture.
Our products are made without the use of preservatives, fillers, or harsh chemicals. In order to maximize product life, please avoid getting water in the jar.
Our products are shelf stable for 12 months, and up to 18 months when stored in the refrigerator.
Note: Don’t worry! If your whipped tallow accidentally gets too hot and it melts, it won't affect the integrity of the ingredients - only the texture. You can get the frosting-like consistency back by simply whipping it with a mixer (or enjoying it as more of a balm).
-
Start with a small amount of product and let the warmth from your fingers melt it into your skin. Since our skin’s pH level is so similar to pork tallow, you’ll be surprised at how your skin readily accepts the product. Also, remember that a little will go a long way! Our products are highly concentrated meaning they contain no water or fillers, you only need a very small amount to nourish your skin.
-
Not at all. We slow-render our tallow at low temperatures to ensure purity and preserve nutrients without a strong scent. Many customers describe the natural aroma as clean, mild, or even slightly sweet - especially when paired with our infused herbs and botanicals.
-
We use real herbs and medicinal flowers in our products, therefore the color may change from batch to batch because of naturally occurring colors in petals and plants.
