Our goal is to live a life that honors God, fulfill the dreams of those who have gone before us, and prepare the way for those who will follow. It really is a whole family affair.

Homestead farming has always been in our blood.

All in the family.. grounded by our roots…

Steve’s family raised Hereford cattle and Spotted Poland China pigs and farmed the land south of Earlham while he was growing up. They had a very close-knit family (consisting of his dad, mom, and 2 sisters: Susan and Cindy, and him) and loved life out on their rural country farm. He joined the military shortly after his 21st birthday following his father’s death.

I (Heather) was raised on a small farm south of Stuart. My family (dad, mom, and brother, Travis) raised many different kinds of animals including goats, sheep, chickens, goats, pigs, turkeys, guineas, rabbits, ponies, dogs, cats, and a few cattle.

Married in 1993, while Steve was in the military, serving as a flight engineer on helicopters for search and rescue (of which he had 5 official saves and several more assists during his military career), our family grew by adding 6 children. Steve retired from active duty in the Air Force early 2006 and settled, with all 6 kids, on my grandpa’s farmstead (it was always his hope and dream that family would carry on his legacy). For the first 12 years on the farm, our sole focus was on remodeling/building onto the old home place, cleaning up the farm grounds, and restoring the barns and sheds. Until 2018, no serious consideration was taken towards raising animals, vegetables, and fruits on the farm.

We are patriotic Americans who are proud to serve God in our church and community, invest time in our family, and work with our hands on our farm. Our Kunekunes are a hands-on, full family experience.

We believe our current endeavor on the farm will both honor our families and give Steve an outlet for coping with life after 20 years of military service.

Thank you for being a part of our journey…

We are proud to be a part of the “Homegrown by Heroes” organization.
